Travel Information
Getting There
Two great ways to fly into San Miguel de Allende — here’s everything you need to plan your trip.
Best Option
Santiago de Querétaro (QRO)
~1 hour by car (≈ 100 km / 62 mi)
Queretaro International Airport (QRO) is the closest airport to San Miguel de Allende and the most recommended option.
Direct flights available from several US cities including Los Angeles, Houston, and Dallas.
Airlines: Aeromexico, American Airlines, Volaris, United
Getting to San Miguel:
Private Car / Shuttle
Most comfortable option. Pre-book a driver and they’ll meet you at arrivals. ~$90–120 USD one-way. We’ll share our recommended drivers closer to the date.
Uber
Uber operates at QRO and works well to San Miguel. Expect ~$70–90 USD. Easiest option.
Bus (Primera Plus / ETN)
Take a taxi from QRO to Querétaro Central Bus Station (~25 min), then a direct bus to San Miguel (~1 hr). Comfortable and budget-friendly (~$20 USD total).
Second Option
León / Guanajuato (BJX)
~1.5 hours by car (≈ 150 km / 93 mi)
A solid alternative with good international connections, especially via Mexico City.
Slightly farther from San Miguel but often offers more flight options and competitive fares.
Airlines: Aeromexico, Volaris, VivaAerobus, American Airlines, United
Getting to San Miguel:
Private Car / Shuttle
Door-to-door service from BJX to your hotel. ~$80–110 USD one-way. The most relaxed option after a long flight.
Uber
Uber is available at BJX. Trip runs ~$70–90 USD to San Miguel. Easiest option.
BajioGo Shuttle
Popular shared shuttle service running directly between BJX and San Miguel. ~$35–45 USD per person. Book online in advance.
Getting to San Miguel de Allende is part of the experience. Whether you’re traveling from Guadalajara, Mexico City, or connecting from another destination, there are easy ways to make your way there.
Tip: book your flights early — fares to QRO and BJX rise as the wedding weekend approaches.
Accommodation
Where to stay?
We’ve curated some of our favorite places to stay. Book early — San Miguel is popular!
Luxury Hotels

Live Aqua San Miguel de Allende
~$300–$550 USD/night
A high-end, design-driven resort with spa, multiple restaurants, and premium amenities — ideal for guests seeking a top-tier, full-service experience.

Albor, Tapestry Collection by Hilton
~$200–$400 USD/night
Albor is perhaps the hotel with the strongest focus on design and architecture. Its concept is inspired by the connection between San Miguel and Bajío landscape, incorporating stone, natural tones, artisanal materials, and elements that evoke the mountains surrounding the city.
Mid-Tier Hotels

Hotel Amatte San Miguel de Allende
~$180–$350 USD/night
Amatte is the most boutique, romantic, and exclusive of our recommendations. Its concept is designed for travelers looking for more than just a place to stay — it offers a special experience that becomes part of their time in San Miguel.

Hotel La Morada
~$140–$250 USD/night
A charming boutique hotel just steps from the main square, perfect for guests who want walkability and a central location.

Hotel Real de Minas
~$90–$200 USD/night
A large, traditional colonial hotel with gardens and extensive event spaces, ideal for groups and classic Mexican ambiance.
Budget Option

Hotel MX San Miguel de Allende
~$70–$130 USD/night
This place is an ideal choice for those looking to experience the magic of San Miguel without giving up the comfort of a modern, laid-back hotel. Its concept blends contemporary spaces with details inspired by the city’s Mexican character, creating the perfect atmosphere for a romantic getaway, a trip with friends, or a family stay.

Hotel Misión San Miguel de Allende
~$40–$77 USD/night
This hotel has something that makes it especially unique: history and character. The property opened in 1975 and originally served as a vacation home for Mario Moreno “Cantinflas.” Today, it preserves that distinctive charm through a villa-style hospitality concept, surrounded by gardens and spacious outdoor areas.

What To Do?
Your San Miguel hit list
We’ve put together a few places and experiences worth adding to your San Miguel list.
Culture
You don’t need the perfect itinerary. The best way to experience San Miguel is simply to start walking and see where the city takes you.
Where to eat?
If there’s one rule for visiting San Miguel, it’s this: come hungry. You’re on vacation, after all. Calories don’t count the same… right?
Drink, party, repeat!
When the sun goes down, San Miguel shifts gears. Sunset first. Cocktails second. We’ll see what happens next.
For the little ones

At the end of the day, this is about so much more than a date on the calendar. We can’t wait to experience it all with you.
